Our church building was subject to a Compulsory Purchase Order from our local, democratically-elected Council and we were forced to leave it. So far, they have not helped us to re-locate.
We live in the sixteenth most deprived ward in the country. The signs of deprivation are everywhere. Houses are boarded up. There is a queue outside the Post Office on benefit day. There is a queue outside the Health Centre every morning. Yesterday, I saw a man knocking on the door of one house armed with a machete. I didn’t say anything because he was smiling at the man who opened the door.
Anyone who thinks that the Gospel doesn’t mix with politics clearly doesn’t live in the same world that we do.
