We have a somewhat ambiguous relationship with the retreat movement. At its best, retreat spirituality has invigorated much of our modern worship, imbuing it with an integrity and rootedness which has greatly influenced us. At its worst, though, it takes its title too literally. It is a retreat from the world. A Christian holiday camp, where ‘nice,’ like-minded people can safely gather together to develop their inner individual.
This picture is taken from our first ‘urban non-retreat’ an attempt to apply some of the lessons of retreat spirituality to our urban real life context.
